I used the internet, made my phone calls and people were none the wiser. I was back over at the shop before long, journaling and experimenting with ideas.

The days passed like nothing had ever changed. By that, I mean that it felt strange to not have the house I had lived in, but the people and places were all the same – there was great comfort in that.

People talk alot about an idea from the movie Shawshank Redemption. First, you hate the walls. Then you get used to them. Enough time passes, you come to depend on them. I was breaking out of a year long circle of routine and healing. It was a little scary after not doing this for 25 years but it was exhilerating and positive at the same time.

I spent the next week backpacking the area and exploring. Some nights I stayed in the motel – some nights I camped outside. And, all the while home became where I laid my head.

Its funny how you can live in a place and get so comfortable with routine that you only end up knowing a very small percentage of the area and people.

I mapped my ass off during this week. I used gas stations and stores as navigation points and worked my way outward from there. I talked a lot of life, met some interesting people and some days went back to the property I had lived at to have coffee with some friends that live there. I still laugh to myself that they ahve a Great Dane named Dante.

It was around this time, that I lost my phone. The moisture from being outside all the time, coupled with dirt and debris that got into the charging port is what finished my telephone off.

I budgeted well – but, WHO can resist morning Boston Creme filled chocolate donuts and soda and several packs of Lucky Strikes every day? Not me either.

I don’t know how it is where the readership lives, but prices where I live are now SKY HIGH. Cigarettes went up to 8 dollars a pack – the cheap 5 dollar ones, a bottle of Coke is now 3.50, a jar of peanut butter is 5 dollars, along with other basic standbys for people living simply.

Living normally here was draining my finances fast. It wasn’t long before I pawned my first of two flutes for money. And, headed outside to sleep off the side of the walking and jogging trail instead of the motel.

I live in a semi-rural area. So, safe out of sight places to sleep are plentiful – and the weather this time of year is phenomenal. And, that’s just what I did for the next week.

I’m going to leave this here for now. I’m working today to get the next blog out and published – should be posted in the next couple hours. Thank you for taking the time to read, and have a fantastic day out there wherever you may be! As always, please feel free to leave a comment in the box below.
