I was staying in a nice hotel during this time. There was internet, and I posted on FB a lot and slept. I hadn’t told many people that I was traveling – and I don’t think many were the wiser from the Facebook posts.

Ten days of great, relaxed vacation went by. I had planned on working my way to the coast and jumping a boat. But, in thinking about this, over those ten days I realized my plan, or total lack of one precluded this from happening.

So, I packed my bag again and walked out of town one morning. I followed the signs to a town very near where I live on the American side and trekked.

To distill, I walked non-stop from sunrise to sunset. And then, through the night until dawn. Eventually I came to the highway signs that led me back to the border crossing again – and as blind luck would have it I returned to the same freeway checkpoints I had first passed on my way in.

Navigating my way back was a breeze, and after a few questions at the US Border checkpoint I was back on the road to Burger King and the hotel I had stayed at.

I got food at a couple convenience stores as I walked and made the hotel by late afternoon. It was over a 100 degrees as I walked with my backpack and I rested a lot.

I got to the hotel, got a room and once again sat out front barefoot. I had walked a couple hundred miles and my right ankle was raw from friction. So, I sat smoking, digesting Advil and air drying my foot. I had some great conversations about life with a couple locals staying at that place and drank coffee and orange juice a lot. I showered and crashed for at least 10 or 11 hours straight.

The next day I retraced my steps back home. It took me a full day to get back and I rolled into town almost hobbling from so much walking.

Very sore, but very excited – the second part of a three part plan was about to begin….

I stayed in a local motel the night I rolled into town. It had a swimming pool, but I couldn’t be bothered – I would probably have sank I was so tired. So I sat on a bench out front of my room, smoking as always and taking it all in. I was thinking like wildfire about what was coming next….

I’ll leave it here for this portion of the journey in this blog today. Many more chapters to come, and thank you as always for taking the time to read. Please feel free to leave a comment in the box below, and have a great day!
