So, I’m sitting here this morning thinking further about the idea of balance on the heels of yesterdays, Power blog. Some people are very good it seems at moderation and voluntary moderation at that. But, it seems that JUST IN CASE, some things have been figured into us to help, should we need it, to maintain balance and stay on the path. Without further ado…

It seems to me, that when people are going through things that are too good, they can actually get red-lined or faint. Most people know about blacking out when things are too bad, that the same thing can happen. What happens, when we get TOO smart? Well, it seems like we start to go neurotic. What happens when we are not smart enough? Well, not to put too fine a point on it, we get our butts kicked, and become candidates for the American Darwin awards. 🙂

Certain things like this, the balance shock collars if you will, help to keep us on the path.

Another thing I am wondering, since I always spiel off about Yin and Yang, is what happens when there is only Yin, OR Yang, but not the other half? Is this male or female, what does that little circle contained within it signify, and just HOW did Yin and Yang come to be contained by a circle? Was it to limit this idea? Was it put there by someone who was mighty irritated with others? We all know that circles strengthen, and then end in a revolution. So, I’ll leave this here and interpretive.

Attention spans, seem to have gone out the window these days. We want what we want, we want it now – its like, waiting for Ramen noodles in the microwave. Instant gratification. News stories are getting shorter, people prefer the videos, movies are the new books, the list goes on…. And, all of this is very much like weightlifting. Do you remember as a kid having to handwrite your assignments and reports? We got it right the first time when we wrote back then, or pretty close. Could you do the same thing now, or are you out of shape – so to speak?

This trend of short attention spans, can come back the other way. But, its going to take time. To paraphrase, Salman Rushdie said that you have to get WAY out there to discover some things, and the trick is that you need to be able to find your way back after. It seems that we are way out there, and I’m wondering what happens now. Are short attention spans the result of coming back to balance, because we got too smart as a people?

Its definitely food for thought…

Have a great day, everyone wherever you may be out in the world today. As I’m about to write on Facebook, its a great day to go out there and do just about anything.
