So, I was recently talking with a friend about feeling behind in life. Like, feeling like the others in his friends group were miles ahead of where he was, and he was comparing himself to others. And, after relating this conversation to a few people, someone suggested I do a blog on it. So, here we go….
I’m talking with you at 3:30am, sitting on a golf course getting eaten alive by mosquitos and borrowing a wireless signal at 51 years old and I’m happy as a clam. Others at my age are CEOs, and SVPs, and have the big house, the nice car, kids and all that. Me? I’m a writer and a traveler, musician and Capoeirista, living my own life outside of “the system” and probably happier than most. Its the path I chose, and I’m walking it gratefully.
When I was younger, I used to go to a friends house for tea. One day I commented that I was stressed about things not going well. I talked about the pressure of school, the job after, finding a city to live in, and being on my way to building a great life.
My friend told me, that I was now at a point where the only person I had to make happy was me. I was old enough that I controlled my time, my pace and what happened from there. And, I relaxed considerably when I thought about it like that.
So, to get to my point in this blog: Being happy is the name of the game when its all said and done. Whether you are a mllionaire, or a pauper really doesn’t matter. Being happy, and looking into the mirror every day and being able to smile at who is looking back is what its all about. Problems and challenges come and go, but in the end the only person you need to make happy, is you.
So, if you aren’t happy with the path you are on, change it! As the Curious Case of Benjamin Button said: you can start over as many times as you like, there isn’t any time limit or rules about this.
I LOVE my path, and I hope that the readers who requested this blog find one that they end up loving too. Thank you for reading, and have a fantastic day!
