Hello everybody! It’s blow torch lady here again to ramble on about another creative perspective. On days when my creative spark isn’t feeling so sparkly, I use a practice a friend once shared of keeping an ongoing “beauty is everywhere” list on my phone. Here I can jot down moments of my day that feels handcrafted just for me. For what is an artist to call themselves on the days we don’t feel like crafting, or painting, or writing or creating at all?
I find on the less sparkly days, I look for inspiration. Like a marigold in the sun’s eye, I know that if I don’t actively turn toward the light— that is the color, beauty, and little moments handcrafted for my day— I may begin to wither.
2. When there are 3 different green values on trees and shrubbery
Creativity, passion and dare I say sparkle aren’t things that comes easy, they are things we cultivate or someone that we must feed within. I imagine this as a little Inside Out character controlling my spirit and must be nurtured — for me that person is my inner child.
4. The way that tractor looked like a dinosaur
I take great pride in following the spirit of my younger self as she is a master at leaning into the light—no matter how dreary and bleary the world may be. She can take that sliver of light and like a prism, separate that light into color. But how do I feed this delicate spirit on days when I feel a muted from reality? On days where my own light feels dim and bruised.
6. Pink conchas
Admittedly, I do not write in this list everyday– just when I have the chance. However, I’ve been able to build two handfuls of beautiful reminders. This is the light I bring to my marigold.
9. A gentle breeze when you’re thinking of a loved one
So I will keep looking, keep jotting down these little rays of light and store them away like tiny gifts for my inner child. Because even on my more dimmed seasons when my petals feel heavier than usual, these little moments are reminders that my light is never lost.
11. Making myself knee slap laugh
I want to end by asking this… What are some of your own handcrafted moments? I invite you to find those moments that reconnect you to the piece inside of you that curate’s creativity, passion, joy, excitement… your light. Collect these gifts, water our own garden, but most importantly
trust the process.
