Right now, I’m thinking about the book Midnight’s Children by Salman Rushdie.

In the story, 1001 children were born, possessing magical powers from the stroke of midnight and for one hour afterwards on the night of India’s independence from Britain. Saleem and Shiva were born on the stroke of midnight, and were the most powerful of them.

The main character and protagonist, Saleem Sinai, was born a telepath and holds council with the Midnight’s Children every night. While he is telling the story it comes out that he is sick and working with limited time from a pickle factory as he relates this tale. He says, he is coming apart at the seams.

I never was able to tell if Saleem’s sickness was really a metaphor. He spins quite a story, but there are holes in it and is slowly unravelling. Much like his sickness and his body coming apart. And, he is running out of time before the holes, like his falsehoods are discovered.

This is not exactly a book review. I think, its to raise awareness of the book because it is one of the REALLY good ones that was ever written out there. I wish I could ask readers for their book recommendations, but the truth is I haven’t read one cover to cover in a year or more. Life always intervenes, and isn’t that always the way…

This blog is kind of like putting a magnifying glass on a great story. Some work magnifies, some do not. Either way, when you pull the magnifying glass back in the sun it gets very problematic for books, people, situations, adventures. So, I’m not delving too deep into this story in this blog. However, you should check this book out because it, in the parlance of our times, rocks the house!

I have never been to India. But, I’ll be getting a Sitar in the next couple months and cannot wait to start making some very traditional music. Personally, I like to learn songs as they are on the instruments and countries they came from. People have asked me why I don’t freestyle on existing songs before, and my standard answer is that you cannot improve upon perfection. Only detract. Theory of the uncarved block, and all that…

Have a wonderful day out there, everyone, wherever you may be. I’m sitting here at the shop and getting ready to go supernova from caffeine consumption. I can tell this, because I keep repeating the following phrase for balance: This is my coffee. There are many like it, but THIS ONE is mine. 🙂
