The Captain of a Ship in a Bottle.
Good morning! I’m sitting here at remote offsite location #2 (the pool) and thinking about being the Captain of a ship in a bottle.
We all kind of are really, I think, looking at the world through television, laptops, phones, and all technology. It’s our view into things from an invisible barrier, and it makes me wonder why we put so much time into technology at all. I’ve written before that we are the only life form on this planet that has to pay to live. And, we put all this time into technology to make our life easier while we do it. And the better we get at it, the more addictive it becomes.
I myself, tried to go without my laptop and phone for a day and just couldn’t do it. All or most music seems to come from the internet, and I’ve also gone off about what it does to attention spans and handwriting. The internet and technology is easily hacked, and it seems like we have to give all our personal information just to be a part of it. I have personally seen movies and tv shows about what they do with all of this information, and nobody seems to care anymore. Hm.
I wrote once that being in exile, people seem to spend their lives wanting to go back to where they came from. What happens when they don’t want to go back there any more. When they decide to strike out and find their own way and place.
So, this Captain of a ship in a bottle, is going to find land again. I’m keeping my laptop for the site, but otherwise, I think I’m going to try an experiment and go without technology for awhile. I’m just going to use it for writing, give Facebook a rest and see what happens. BECAUSE in the old days there used to be hardcopy address books for using the mail. I think, I’m going to sit down and write a couple letters.
To distill, technology keeps us in the bottle….
Have a great day, everyone!
